How’s it going, ‘Mel?

Eighty-five (85), in this case, Batch ‘85 High School reunion is an odd but good number. There’s something to it that feels good, yet, I cannot point a finger where it is.

For starters, here are couples: it’s the year I graduated from high school. Maybe a small feat now looking back, yet graduating meant the world to us then. More so when viewed against a backdrop of teens with raging hormones, boiling testosterone, and an endlessly despicable youth.

I guess we’re just having the time of our lives.

And tomorrow, August 4, Saturday, 2018 is our high school reunion and grand alumni homecoming. That’s where the past meets the present – schoolmates, that is. From downtime stream, we will get to see schoolmates whose ages may well be the peers of our fathers and or uncles or aunties. The original “Titos and Titas of Cebu” – a time when pictures are either printed in black/white and or Sephia and are far from the megapixel clarity that your humble mobile phone is capable.

Like all high school reunions, we get to see old friends; old flames as well. I refer to flings that failed and wouldn’t rekindle with a repeated strike of a match. Lol. And, being our 33rd anniversary, we now have classmates that are honorary members of Top Gun School or more fondly described as the top (hair on the head) is gone. May I mention my old friend Noli Maraquiao and myself – people who have lost hairs and gained bellies.

This year, our batch gets to seat a tad closer to the stage. This seating protocol requires the grown-ups, those at the top of the hill and those over it will sit near the elevated platform – a tradition grounded on respect. Batch ’85, proudly being in that category, enjoys front seat viewing.
